Thought for the Day : Proverbs 11:3

v.3    The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.

Integrity versus Duplicity. Integrity is that attitude that will not countenance untruth or deception in behaviour. Integrity is utter honesty in dealings. For the person whose heart is upright and true, integrity is a guiding star, that attitude that keeps them from falseness and instead seeks goodness, faithfulness, truthfulness, justice, rightness. With this attitude the upright heart is guided to avoid the marshy areas of temptation in dealings with other people that can suck in and destroy.

The person who is not true to such an ethic is unfaithful and cannot be trusted because they will not bind themselves to truth. They weave webs of untruth and eventually are snared by them. Such a way is not only foolish, it is dangerous if not fatal.

Again, can I today be honest about myself? Dare I describe myself as upright – not making excuses for things that I know deep down are not good? Is integrity one of my core values in my dealing with other people? If not, I need to beware.
