Thought
for the Day : Proverbs 10:25
v.25
When the storm has
swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever
.
A question
of security and stability. Jesus (Mt 7:24 -27) telling of two house builders
gave the same sort of picture. A storm comes and it affects different
people in different ways. When a storm comes (and “storm” can mean all
different sorts of upsets in life) the wicked are left devastated. They
have nothing to hang onto. When storms come, of financial collapse, sickness,
accident, or simply relationship rejections, then the person without a
relationship with God have little to draw upon and soon what they have
is spent and they are left with nothing and are soon gone. It is devastating,
but true.
In the same
storm the righteous cling on to God and find He is a rock, a fortress
(e.g. Psa 18:2). It is a simple fact of life and it is true. For the unbeliever
this is annoyingly impossible – but is! The believer seems to be able
to draw on an invisible support. It is the support of knowing that you
are loved and knowing who you are, and knowing the very presence of God
the Holy Spirit within. This person doesn't rush around trying to find
impossible solutions. No, instead they stand still and wait upon God for
the answer.
The key
question is how will we act when a “storm” comes? The storm is the place
where a person's heart is most clearly revealed. Will they act in panic,
or will they remain serene and at peace, and the answer is determined
by the life they have been living and the heart that they have.
